A bunch of other great bloggers do a thankful recap of the week on Saturdays. I always forget, but today I didn't (even though I am a day late and truthfully, Sundays are better for me anyways...). I think I'm going to start doing a weekly (or as often as I can) post in gratitude also.
... I am thankful for my family. We had our annual August Cookout today to celebrate the numerous Summer birthdays in my family (my own and Niko's included!). Although it was a pig roast (super gross), it was nice. Niko got to see all of "those people" who are starting to become vaguely familiar and those who are already recognizable favorites. We went swimming, played cornhole (umm, longest game ever courtesy of yours truly... I felt so bad for my uncle having been paired with me...), ate some good food, and had a great time visiting. Everyone is totally in love with Niko (and me, of course!) and it's great that we get to spend time together, even if it is only a few times a year. I have a large family (my dad is one of nine, and most of his siblings have 1-3 children, and now there are three great-grandchildren) so it is hard to get us all together, but somehow we manage to do it.
... I am thankful for my family (again). My immediate family, that is. They are great! My parents are ultrahelpful, each one watching the baby one or two days a week, helping me with the house, and helping me in life in general. I have awesome parents who I probably don't thank enough, so I'll take a minute to publicly say how great they are! My brother and sister are also pretty cool. My brother watches the baby one day a week for me and my sister watches him sometimes on the weekends if I have to work. They love Niko so much and are definitely great siblings to me! My brother's girlfriend is also wonderful, helping watch the baby, too. I have an awesome family, and I love them all very much!
... I am thankful for my job. Sometimes I hate my job. It's hard work, very tedious, and doesn't financially pay off. But I have a job and I am very good at my job, all of the mundane and difficult tasks. I don't talk about my job much. Maybe I'll do a post later about what I actually do (I work in an environmental laboratory - I am foremost the Medical/Pharmaceutical/Odd Job Project Manager; I am also Senior Chemist in the Wet Chemistry Department; Lead Microbiologist and Microbiological Group Leader; sometimes Administrative Assistant; and am trained on every damn thing there is to do there just about). I am grateful to have a job that pays the bills, doing something that I am good at, and something that is always interesting. Also, I get a firsthand look into the water I am drinking and constant glimpses into the future of the environment and environmental management. It's pretty cool.
... I am thankful for my son. I needed him, and I think he came to me for a reason at a specific time in my life when I really needed it most. I profoundly love my son. He is my Da-Sein-to-Be, and I am so thrilled with having been charged with the task of acclimating him to the wide world available for his domination. He is perfect in every way (to me, at least) and is such a loving little boy. I love him dearly and am cherishing every moment I am gifted to spend with him.

Okay, so sort of general this week, but true. Let's see what next week brings!
